Yogesh, the singer with velvet voice, passes away

Popular singer Yogesh Vaidya passed away at the age of 77. He breathed last on Thursday at 12:30 pm at Valley Hospital in Sundhara, Kathmandu. He left many popular songs for us, including ‘Sapna Bhulai Sara’, ‘Mero Aasuma Nahanse’, ‘Nepal Mero Timilai Uphaar Bho’.

Singer Vaidya also underwent a kidney transplant some time ago and he was also suffering from paralysis related problems for some time. Vaidya, was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat on Friday. Family members and a large number of music lovers were present at the funeral. Before the funeral at Pashupati Aryaghat, his body was kept by the Nepal Musicians Association at Naxal-based Music and Dance Academy to pay homage to late singer. At the same time, distinguished musicians Shambhujit Baskota, musicians Chetan Sapkota, Bashant Sapkota, Mahesh Khadka, Milan Moktan and many other musicians paid their respects by offering flower garlands.

Born in Naradevi in 2003 B.S, Vaidya has won the first and best song awards during the National Song Conference.

Yogesh, who studied up to B.Sc from Trichandra College, started his musical journey from Radio Nepal. Vaidya’s first song was recorded in 2022 B.S with lyrics by Kiran Kharel and music by Natikaji with the lyrics ‘Kati Pyaasi Chha Zindagi’. Then a Newari song was recorded ‘Jeevan Jigu’. After that he recorded dozens of other popular songs. Yogesh, who had been in government employment for about 33 years, retired from the post of joint secretary in 2061 B.S.

“Yogesh also had a very profound personality,” remarked musician Banskota. “He had the feeling that the Nepali music sector should have a bright and big future, that the creators of Nepali song music should also gain knowledge like those of the neighboring countries, and spread Nepali song music in the world with their talent keeping intact its originality”. “Even though he is no more now, his works will always remain with us”.  

Chetan Sapkota President of Musicians Association remembered Vidhya as “the singer who made Radio Nepal”. “He had a wonderful voice. That voice brought many young people like me to Kathmandu. I am very much impressed by his voice”.
