Nepal succeeds to bring over one million tourists in 2023

Nepal government has has succeeded to meet its target of bringing in 10 lakhs tourists in 2023. There is now some hope in the tourism business which remained stagnant due to covid for the past couple of years. From January 1 to December 27, 10 lakhs 1 thousand 844  tourists visite Nepal.

According to the statistics of the Nepal Tourism Board, in 2023, the largest number of tourists came from neighboring India. This year 3 lakh 13 thousand 901 tourists came to Nepal from India. Similarly, USA stood second with 99 thousand 326 tourists visiting from the country to Nepal and China secured third position with 59 thousand 583 Chinese visitors coming to Nepal in the year.

According to data, 52 thousand 496 tourists came from United Kingdom (UK), 38 thousand 149 from Australia, 35 thousand 492 from Bangladesh, 26 thousand 793 from Germany, 25 thousand 270 from Thailand, 23 thousand 437 tourists from South Korea.

According to the Tourism Board, 1 lakh 17 thousand 306 tourists came in October which is the highest number of this year. At the beginning of the year 55 thousand 74 tourists in January, 73 thousand 255 in February, 99 thousand 428 in March. Similarly, 98 thousand seven hundred 74 tourists in April, 77 thousand seven hundred two in May, 72 thousand two hundred 48 in June, 57 thousand seven hundred 25 in July. 67 thousand one hundred and 53 tourists visited Nepal in August, 91 thousand 12 in September, 1 lakhs 86 thousand 28 in November and 90 thousand 309 in December.

While presenting its budget for the current fiscal year, the government had claimed that the number of foreign tourists visiting Nepal would be increased to 10 lakhs in 2023. The government has announced that 2025 will be celebrated as the Visit Nepal Year. In addition, the year 2023 to 2032 has been celebrated as the tourism decade with the target of bringing in 35 lakhs tourists. With the increase in the number of domestic and foreign visitors in Nepal’s various tourist spots, tourism entrepreneurs have become excited.
