First National Conference of LOF concludes

Himalayan region will experience severe impacts of Climate Change: warn experts

“What kind of future we want to build all depends upon ourselves and youths engaged in different fields should collaborate and discuss about this issue,” remarked Miss Nepal World Srichchha Pradhan. Speakinga as special guest at a programme organized by Land Our Future, an organization dedicated to environment protection and climate change mitigation, in Kathmandu on Saturday Miss Nepal Srichchha said, “we should keep nature in centre not just human being while formulating our development plans.” “The future of the coming generation will be secured only if we could protect environment and minimze climate change impacts,” she pointed out.

“The gap between poor and rich will further widen if we failed to address the issues related to environment protection and climate change,” pointed out Nava Raj Dhakal, Executive Director of Alternate Energy Promotion Centre addressing the opening of the First National Conference of the Land Our Future organization in Kathmandu on Saturday.

He underscored that the youths can play an important role in the promotion of renewable energy in Nepal “We should utilize renewable energy instead of traditional one in order to protect environment,” remarked former Minister for Environment and Science and Technology Ganesh Sah. He encouraged the youths to take a lead role towards the path of protecting environment and reducing climate change impacts.

Former Minister for Environment and advisor of Land our Future, Sunil Manandhar, the responsibility to fight against the problems related to climate change and environment degradation has come on the shoulder of the younger generation. “We should calculate the impacts of Russia-Ukraine war and the war that is going on in Gaza Stripe between Israel and Hamal on environment and climate change,” pointed out environmental expert Vinod Bhatta.

“The Himalayan region will experience 0.3 additional heat than the average 1.5 percent increase in world temperature as compared to the pre-Industrial revolution era due to the impacts of carbon emission and global warming, pointed out Principal of Schemes College, Ajaya Mathema. On the occasion, coordinator of Land our Future Abhinav Chaudhary, young scientist and director of College of Business Management Shishir G.C., entrepreneur Kushal Gurung among other shed light on different aspects of climate change and environmental degradation.

The two day programme also featured poster competition, panel discussions, floor discussion and cultural shows. A video message prepared by Gyani Shrestha, director at US Carbon Cycle Science Program Office, highlighting the problems related with carbon emission was also shown during the programme. The National Conference of LOF was attended by over 100 participants including some Indian and Bangladeshi delegates.
