Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) on November 3, Friday organized a workshop on the theme “Energy Transition through Decentralized Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Kathmandu. The workshop participated in by various government agencies, development partners, private sector, academicians and experts discussed key dimensions of energy transition in Nepalese context and advised possible way forward to accelerate energy transition.
The overall objective of the workshop organized on the eve of the 27th anniversary of AEPC was to discuss energy transition through Decentralized Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, sustainable financing for energy transition and climate resilient development among concerned stakeholders.
Speaking as chief guest, Dr. Prabhu Budhathoki, National Planning Commission Member, underlined the need for adopting clear cut policy and setting target for the country’s transition to generating and using renewable energy.
In his concluding remarks Sushil Chandra Tiwari, Secretary Water and Energy Commission Secretariat, called for paying special attention towards promoting renewable energy, which has very little contribution in the entire energy system of the country.
Nawa Raj Dhakal, Executive Director, AEPC delivering a welcome speech on the occasion, elaborated AEPC’s achievements and way forward. Sher Singh Bhat, energy expert, underscored the need for substituting imported energy and expressed the view that energy should be renewable, domestically produced, affordable and non-perishable.
Pointing to the importance of energy security, Kiran Gautam, senior divisional engineer, WECS, said, we should also pay attention towards solar, wind and bio-gas etc instead of just focusing on hydro-power.
During the workshop two papers were presented on the theme, Energy Transition through DRE and EE in Nepal and Sustainable Financing for Energy Transition and Climate Resilient Development. The first paper was presented by Prof. Dr. Shalikram Pokharel while the second paper was presented by Prof. Dr. Shobhakar Dhakal.
