The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) is all set to host the General Assembly (GA) of the Union of Asian Alpine Associations (UAAA) and celebrate the golden jubilee of NMA’s establishment. “NMA will also hoist Nepal’s national flag at Kalapathar, a historic location near the Everest Base Camp, that hosted a Nepalese cabinet meeting in 2009 to draw international attention to the adverse effects of climate change.”
This was informed during a press conference organized by NMA at its secretariat at Nagpokhari, Naxal the other day.
“The NMA firmly believes that all these events will contribute to the promotion of Nepal’s mountain tourism,” reads a statement issued by the NMA. “Representatives from all the Asian Alpine Associations will participate in the AGM, so we strongly believe that this gathering will help us promote Nepal’s mountain tourism internationally,” remarked NMA President Nima Nuru Sherpa. “We also humbly request all our media friends to support us in making this event a huge success.”
“The UAAA GA will take place on October 31, 2023, at the Marriott Hotel in Nagpokhari, Naxal. Representatives from all Asian Alpine federations will participate in the GA. NMA earned the right to host UAAA GA 2023 during the previous GA held in India.” As a founding member, NMA wishes to host the UAAA GA as a part of the NMA Golden Jubilee celebration,” Sherpa added.
A grand celebratory function will be held on November 1, 2023, at the Army Officer’s Club in Bhadrakali, to be inaugurated by the Right Honorable President Ramchandra Poudel, according to NMA.
As part of the Golden Jubilee celebration, various awards will be distributed, and various national and international personalities, including world record-holding climbers, will be honored. A special issue of Nepal Parpat for NMA’s golden jubilee will also be launched.
Before the official function, a morning procession will be organized from the NMA office in Nagpokhari, Naxal, to the Army Officer’s Club, according to the press release. Internationally acclaimed climbers, tourism entrepreneurs, and members of various indigenous communities, including Sherpa, Gurung, Tamang, and Newar with their traditional attire will participate in the rally. “As a symbolic gesture, NMA will also hoist Nepal’s national flag at Kalapathar on the 25th of Kartik, 2080. Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati, will hoist the flag. A peace torch will be carried to Kalapathar from Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha. Renowned climbers will carry the peace torch from Lumbini to Kalapathar, according to NMA.
