Govt. to terminate project contracts if failed to report progress

Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has warned that the government will terminate the contracts of projects if the contractors failed to report the progress.

During his discussions with protesting contractors at his office on Monday, the Finance Minister said “the government would clear its payments to contractors, but again it would not hesitate to cancel contracts of stalled projects.”

In case of those projects for which the termination of the contracts is not a feasible option, he urged for the management of the budget and the acceleration of the projects.

It is worth recalling here that the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) has been agitating under its second phase of the protest since August 10, accusing the government of hesitating to release payments to them.
