Govt accounts frozen nationwide

Government accounts across the country have been frozen. The Financial Comptroller General Office has frozen the accounts of the federal, provincial and local governments since 12 o’clock Sunday night.

Gayatri Raman Khanal, information officer of the Financial Comptroller General Office, said that according to the notification issued by the Comptroller General’s Office on June 25, the transactions of the provincial and local governments for this fiscal year have been closed since 12:00 AM Sunday night. No payment can be taken from last night and no new amount will be paid from the provincial and local level system for a week, he shared.

Cheques issued by showing expenditure in the system till 12 midnight can be exchanged on Monday. However, information Officer Khanal said that as per the rule new cheques cannot be issued from Monday.
