Nepali and Bangladeshi youths participate in ‘School on Climate Change’ interaction

On 20th May, 2023 Land Our Future organized a program titled “School on climate change series – 2” at Kathmandu Model College (KMC) hall in Baghbazaar, Kathmandu. The programme was attended by Bangladeshi delegates from IDEB (Institution of development of engineers of Bangladesh) and Nepali delegates from different educational backgrounds.

Former Environment Minister and advisor to the Land Our Future Sunil Kumar Manandhar was the chief guests during the programme. Manandhar and special guest Pradip Kanti Roy, an engineer and president of IDEB jointly inaugurated the program by lighting the traditional lamp and watering a pot.

Then Purna Chandra Lal Rajbhandari, former environmental affair officer of UNEP (United Nation Environment Program) made his presentation on the government’s policy regarding the climate change and where we are lacking behind.

He also shared his three decade long experiences regarding climate changes as he has been working in the same field since long period of time. He had been involved in various organizations such as LAPA and NAPA and the works carried out by UNEP.

Next speaker Pradeep Bhattarai, Program coordinator of Prakriti Resources Center (PRC), who spoke about climate change in Nepal explaining about the activities conducted by PRC. Sakunda Ojha, GM Sanima Hydro delivered his speech on climate change and energy, which explained about the energy consumptions along with the possible ways and drawbacks of solar energy. He also spoke about the hydrogen energy , bio energy and possibilities of exporting of electricity to Bangladesh and explained about the opportunities for youths in energy sectors. Shailendra jha, an Expert in city planning Commission Kathmandu giving his presentation on the SDGs and road to SDGs by 2030 explained about the goals and its links with the climate change impacts. He explained how they have been working specially in government school by engaging them in different activities like rooftop gardening and making them respect all the professions by teaching them how difficult each profession is and their positive aspects. During the one day programme, all the guest speakers responded to the queries raised by the audiences. The participants were awarded with the certificates of appreciation. Finally, the program was concluded by the program coordinator Abhinav Kumar Chaudhary taking a smiling group picture at the end.
