Global Money Week (GMW) is being observed worldwide from March 20 to 26, 2023 with a view to generating awareness regarding the importance of financial education. Financial education basically helps each and every individual to gain knowledge regarding cash transaction and cash management, information about services being provided by banks and financial institutions, information about bank, financial institutions and non-banking financial institutions, and to identify various kinds of risks and ways to overcome them.
The GMW observed every year by many countries since March 2012 at the initiative of Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The week is centred at imparting financial knowledge, skills and concepts among the youth and to make them strong and capable in practical sense and
to encourage them to take wise financial decision and also to help attain economic prosperity, according to a statement issued by Nepal Rastra Bank.
More than 40 million youths directly from 109 countries and 170 countries through virtual medium took part during the celebration of the tenth edition of the GMW in 2022. “Learn. Save. Earn” is the permanent slogan of the week whereas this year’s theme of the GMW is “Plan Your Money, Plant Your Future.”
This year’s theme stresses on developing sustainable financial behaviour and strong financial environment among the youths through promoting financial awareness. For more information the NRB has advised to log onto: http://www.globalmoneyweek.org.
Programmes have been fixed to observe Global Money Week from March 20 to 26 across the country at the initiative of Nepal Rastra Bank. Various programmes are being organized with the involvement of NRB, Cooperative Department, Nepal Insurance Authority, Nepal Security Board, National Banking Institution, Employees’ Provident Fund, Civil Investment Fund etc. to observe the week.
