The 73rd National Democracy Day observed

The 73rd Democracy Day was celebrated with various programs on Sunday. President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, KAMMU Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers, heads of constitutional bodies and diplomatic missions in Kathmandu attended the special ceremony organized by the National Democracy Day, 2079 Main Ceremony Committee at Tundikhel Open Ground on the occasion.

During the ceremony, two helicopters of the Nepali Army displayed a banner mentioning “National Democracy Day, 2079” and showered flowers. In addition, pigeons known as symbol of peace, and colorful balloons were flown on the ground, and one minute silence was also observed. Apart from staging a march pass with involvement of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, the Republic Day function was celebrated by playing patriotic songs and national band.

“Greater national consensus is the need of this historical day,” remarked Prime Minister and Chairman of the 73rd Democracy Ceremony Committee, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. He said that the government is committed to establish free and balanced diplomatic relations with friendly countries. Nepal’s politics and economy are passing through a critical phase, pointed out the Prime Minister. 

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari pardoned 395 prisoners on the occasion of Democracy Day. Arun Kumar Chaudhary, the suspended member of the House of Representatives of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, has also been released on the day. Choudhary, elected from Kailali Constituency No. 2, was released from Kailali Jail on Sunday.
