Nepal’s Sushma Tamang won a silver medal in the women’s 48 kg weight group at the ASBC Asian U22 Women’s and Men’s Boxing Championship in Thailand which qualifies her for the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships to be held in India.
Nepal Boxing Association issued a statement on last Tuesday stating that SushmaTamang will directly be selected for the World Championship.
As was successful in winning the silver medal in the Asian U-22 in the 48 kg weight group, Nepal Boxing Association has decided to select her to participant in the Word Championship competition. In women’s 48 kg category, she lost 5-0 to FozilovaFarzona from Uzbekistan in a match in Bangkok, Thailand.
This is the historic achievement by Tamang for Nepal. This is the first time SushmaTamang made it to finals in the competition in the history of Nepal, and this is the first medal Nepal won in the Asian Boxing Championship.
Earlier, Nepal won a bronze medal in a boxing competition. She reached the final by defeating a Mongolian boxer. Three women and three men from Nepal participated in the competition.
