Nepal has won the SAFF Under-15 women’s football championship 2022. The football event was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The Nepali under-15 girls team was able to lift the title of the championship as goalkeeper Sujata Tamang very efficiently foiled a penalty kick of the Bangladeshi team holding Bangladesh to a 1-1 draw in the decisive match scored the equalizer on the 54th minute of the game.
In the final match held under the double round robin system on Friday, Nepal ended up with a 1-1 draw against the Bangladeshi team, paving the way to secure the championship title.
Nepal won the title as it had secured victory in three previous matches and secured a 1-1 draw against the Bangladeshi team. For Bangladesh, it was necessary to secure victory against Nepal to bag the championship title as per its previous score.
In the tournament consisting of three teams, Bhutan remained at the bottom with no points. Earlier, Nepal won 1-0 in the first match against Bangladesh. This is the second time in women’s football history that Nepal has won the title. Likewise, this is the first time that Nepal has won the title in South Asian football.
