Junu Shrestha , gifted with melodious voice, came back to the world of music on September 29, after an interval of 25 years. Her new video consisting of six songs – four Newari and two Nepali – was released on Thursday, Sept. 29 at Rising Mall, Durbarmarg. Her new video “Joon” was released jointly by noted artists Madan Krishna Shrestha, Deep Shrestha and Sangeeta Pradhan amidst a prograrmme.
The video consists of two Nepali songs: ‘Mero chupchap ko artha’ and ‘Pachhyaudai mera dinharu,’ and four Newari songs: ‘Man jigu uin jula,’ ‘Lumanka ji chwona,’ ‘Jigu Nugle ghaa yana’ and ‘Samayana suita syena.’ G. Shah is the lyricist of the song ‘Mero chupchap ko’ while Sarala Shrestha is the lyricist of the song “Pachhyaudai mera.” The four Newari songs were derived from her old music albums.
Some two and a half decades ago, she was known as ‘Madonna of Nepal’ when she did stage performances in Kathmandu. Till today her audience found the same beauty and courage in her face.
Junu, performed her first song as a teenager. Her first song ‘Nhyakan jaka swoya jin’ presented in 2044was in Newari, language. She sang her first Nepali song ‘Man bhitra rahna deu’ authored by Ganesh Pariyar in Radio Nepal in 2045. She had a long break after performing some four dozen songs between 2044 and 2053.
She was encouraged by the overwhelming response she got from the audience even after a gap of 25 years. I found very positive and encouraging response from the public when I entered appeared in stage after 25 years, says Junu.
She is influenced by popular female singers of Nepal Tara Devi and Aruna Lama, and Bollywood singer Lata Mangeshkar.
