EC proposes Nov 18 as election date

Nepal: Election Commission revokes provision to compulsorily field woman  candidate | International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has proposed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to announce November 18 date for both provincial and federal elections.

EC Chief Thapaliya made the proposal on the election date during his meeting with the Prime Minister, according to EC sources. A delegation of Election Commission led by Thapaliya met the Prime Minsiter Deuba and proposed to hold the elections for  provincial and federal parliament simultaneously on November 18.

In his response, PM Deuba said he would discuss the matter during the meeting of the Council of Ministers for taking a decision to this effect at the earliest.

According to Election Commission Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel the government decides the date as per the recommendation made by the Election Commission. The term of the members of the federal and provincial parliaments is expiring on December 8, 2022.
