The major ruling party Nepali Congress (NC) has called the voters to actively participate in the May 13 local level election and exercise their voting rights which would advance development works at the local level while enhancing the delivery of public services.

Organizing a press conference at the party’s central office Monday, NC spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat urged the voters to cast their vote without any fear and intimidation. Stating that the election would be held in a fearless environment, Spokesperson Mahat expressed, “We look forward to healthy competition in all the 753 local levels.”

Condemning the murder of the NC provincial representative in Chitwan, Anil Pariyar, the NC Spokesperson demanded stern action against the culprits.

Informing about clashes in Rukum Paschim, Bajura, Saptari, Sindhupalchowk, Nuwakot, Pandusen and some other places between the cadres of NC and other political parties, he urged the government to enable a fearless environment for the election.

According to him, NC was working towards transforming the local government into a point of service to the citizens, providing education and skill-oriented training to all by promoting a people-oriented governance system, ensuring citizenship-friendly service delivery from ward-level, connecting internet service in all villages and urban human settlements and increasing investment in education by two-fold among others.

Dr. Mahat reaffirmed the commitment of NC to set up an Employment Bank and Enterprise Development Centre at every local level, to appoint adequate human resources for justice delivery, to determine criteria for services and infrastructures, development of forests in over 305 local units having less than one hectare of land and recycling and generating income from garbage among others.
