The main ruling party Nepali Congress (NC) has announced a month-long door to door campaign targeting the local level election.
We are launching door to door campaign starting from March 13 to April 12, to reach out the voters targeting local level elections, said party’s General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma unveiling the party’s campaign in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Nepal is going for local level polls on May 13, when the representatives for municipalities and rural bodies will be elected. “The NC leaders will reach every household during the campaign and inform the people about all the issues including the achievements made by the government in the past one year,” he said.
During the month long campaign, the party will mobilize its local cadres in all 77 districts across the country to inform the people about the party’s future programmes, to get feedback from the people and to give voters education, according to Sharma.
He said that during the campaign, the party will also try to clear all misinformation misunderstanding surrounding the $ 500 million US grant assistance endorsed by the parliament despite protest by some fringe leftist parties claiming that it was against the national interest. In a question whether the Nepali Congress will forge electoral alliance with the coalition partners during the local polls, the Sharma said the party’s central committee will decide the matter after the campaign concludes.
