Increase in number of people going abroad for foreign jobs

The number of people seeking labour permit to go abroad for employment has increased in January. According to the data provided by the Department of Foreign Employment, 54,470 people have taken labour permit to seeking for foreign jobs in January only. Out of them 50, 530 are males and 3,940 are females.  

Last year in December, 66,625 people had obtained labour permits to go abroad for foreign employment. In July of the current fiscal year, 25 thousand 428 people, in August 36 thousand 40, in September 39 thousand 671, in October 54 thousand 918 and in November 74 thousand 354 people had taken labour permit .

According to the Department of Foreign Employment, the number of Nepalese going abroad has been increasing as the crisis in foreign employment due to the Corona epidemic was declining for two years. However, the increase in numbers has stopped in January and February.

 Even now, the number of Nepalese going to the Gulf countries Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE is very high. Nepalese labourers are also going to Kuwait and Oman for employment. Most of the manpower going to foreign employment in January are the unskilled manpower. According to the data provided by the Department of Foreign Employment, out of 54 thousand 470 people, 28 thousand 321 are unskilled manpower. Out of which 26 thousand 337 are males and 1 thousand 984 are females.  The number of people going abroad on visit visa has been increasing in recent times. According to the data provided by the Immigration Department, the number of people going out on visit visas has been increasing recently. According to the department, in 2020, 37,684 people went abroad on visit visa . In 2021, 90 thousand 883 people have gone abroad on visit visa. Similarly, 14 thousand 824 people have gone abroad on visit visa so far in 2022. The Ministry of Home Affairs had introduced new criteria in visit visa from January 10. Under the new rule only those people who have visited two countries other than the Gulf and Malaysia and those who can show the details of the bank account with an annual income of at least Rs 600,000 will be allowed to go on a visit visa.
