The country has entered the SILENCE PERIOD to prepare for March 5 parliamentary election for the House of Representatives. It is a civic responsibility to honour the period and dignify its importance.

“It expects calm and patience from all concerned: space for processing all that took place in poll-campaigning; reflecting-moment on better choice for voters; finalizing preparation for those who man great ballot box exercise.”

Officials of the Election Commission have confirmed that preparations for the election on Thursday have been completed. The Commission has practically displayed its institutional capacity to organize such a great poll in short notice. Although not a scheduled periodic election, the EC could handle it with ease and mature skill and it has earned people’s trust for what it has done to get things done for the parliamentary poll. Nepali voters, some 19 million, are eligible to vote in this week’s election. Arrangements for facilitating them to exercise their adult franchise fairly, freely and without fear have been made. The civic sense of participation and engagement evinced in the pre-election period is considered great and democratic, said a senior politician in Kathmandu the other day.
