The National Security Council has recommended the government to mobilize the Nepali Army personnel for providing security during the general election scheduled to take place on March 5, 2025. Besides discussing the latest security situation in the country and reviewing the security challenges ahead of the election the security council on Thursday recommended to the council of ministers to mobilize Nepal Army as per section 1, Article 266 of the Nepal’s Constitution, to conduct the upcoming election in a free, fair and fearless manner, according to a statement issued by Suman Raj Aryal, member secretary of the NSC.

At the recommendation of the cabinet, President Ramchandra Paudel will authorise the government to deploy the army during the House of Representatives elections. The Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday approved the integrated security plan for the March 5 elections and circulated them to all 77 district administration offices across the country for implementation. As per the integrated security plan, all 77 district administration offices will formulate a security plan where personnel belonging to all four security agencies and temporary police, will be deployed in each pool. The four security agencies include Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department.
