Nepal’s Political parties and candidates are wrapping up their election campaign from Monday mid-night as the silence period for the upcoming House of Representatives elections starts at 12 am.

Once the silence period begins, no one will be allowed to campaign for or against anyone or meet the voters door to door soliciting votes. Before the silence period came into effect, political parties and candidates were making their last effort to woo voters.

According to the Election Commission, the silence period begins at 12 am midnight on Monday and will be in effect until the voting concludes. Voting will start at 7 am on Thursday and concludes at 5 pm. Nepal’s over 1.89 million eligible voters are expected to exercise their voting rights during the March 5 general election. There are 3424 candidates under direct voting or the first past the post (FPTP) system and 3213 candidates under proportionate voting system. Of the total 275 members of the House of Representatives 165 are directly elected while 110 are elected through proportionate voting.
