Nepal Army is set to mobilize around 80,000 personnel of its forces during the March 5 general elections. At the recommendation of the Council of Ministers President Ramchandra Paudel has approved deployment of Nepal Army for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Nepal Army along with other security forces will be deployed during the election as per the approval made by the President in November, 2025, according to Nepal Army spokesperson. The Army will be deployed one month ahead of the date of the election, he added. As per the rule, Nepal Army personnel will be deployed before the election, during the election and after the election, he pointed out.

The security personnel will be mobilized under three tier system during the election as per the integrated security plan, he informed. As per the security plan, Nepal Police personnel will deploy its forces in the first tier, followed by Armed Police Forces in the second tier and the Nepal Army personnel will make the third tier or the last circle.

Nepal Army will not only guard the election booths, but it will also be deployed in all the sensitive places such as prisons and airports across the country, said Basnet.
