The 19th session of the National Assembly has commenced on Sunday at the Federal Parliament building at Singhdurbar secretariat, Kathmandu. The winter session of the Upper House was chaired by Narayan Prasad Dahal, chairman of the House. This was for the first time that the House meeting took place after the Gen Z movement that removed K.P.Oli government from power.
The National Assembly having a total of 59 members, also known as the Upper House, is the permanent House of the Parliament. Although President Ramchandra Paudel on September 12 dissolved the House of Representatives or the Lower House at the recommendation of the Prime Minister following the Gen Z movement, the Upper House remained intact. The tenure of the members of the Upper House is fixed for six years and one third members of the House expires every two years.
