As Nepalis enter the year 2026, one point they should remember is: for the country, the people and themselves, they have to make a very well informed choice in the forthcoming parliamentary election on March 5. The poll this time is not only a routine event brought forward; it is neither an ordinary occasion mentioned in regular calendar nor a pleasure-affair planned for leisure-time. It is a must for all particularly voters and those who are close to voters for it is capable of determining stability and the future of the country. Informed choice in it could open opportunities for good governance, service-delivery-oriented politics, stability, departure from old timers’ transactional and leader-centric politics. Careless or indifferent choice would lead to the opposite of the above: repetition of non-governance, retention of self-serving politics non-performance, and continued lip service to delivery of public services. People, particularly, the eligible voters (18.9 million), could decide through the ballot paper the way the country should go forward from this point on. Gen Z revolution of September, 2025 has already given an alarm message for conscious choice this time. If the message could be understood well, it seeks change, meaningful development, result oriented plans, actual performance from those who are in parliament and Singha Durbar. It could also inspire motivation of changing the whole governing style in Nepal: focused on service to the people and avoiding roots of corruption and nipping chances of abusing authority. A new generational positive push through youths including those under Gen Z could usher the country into a new era. Voters should therefore be very serious to go to vote and vote appropriately in an informed way. They should remember: their vote would be instrumental in making martyrs’ dream come true.
