The Election Commission (EC) has issuing a notice directed professors, teachers and government employees not to participate in election campaigns of any candidate or political party, citing complaints of their involvement in campaign activities.

In a statement issued on Monday, the EC said such participation violates Section 10 of the Election Code of Conduct, which prohibits individuals in these positions from engaging in election campaign related activities including rallies. The EC says it has received complaints regarding involvement of some professors, teachers and government staff in campaign of political parties and candidates, which are against the law, pointed out the EC.

The EC warned that those found breaching the code will face action in accordance with Section 48 of the Election Code of Conduct. In the statement issued by EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the commission has also urged all concerned not to use children during any type of election campaign. The EC has also drawn attention of Nepal government, provincial and local governments towards protecting and promoting rights of children saying that no such activity should be carried out that hampers or affects their studies.
