Change in governance! Change in political culture! Change in public service delivery! That is exactly what voters sought as they handed over near two-third majority win to Rastriya Swatantra Party in the parliamentary election 2026. Now is the time for the leaders of the RSP to respond to public demand. They have to act in such a manner that people begin sensing change right from the time new government begins work. Leaders in previous times would complain hung parliament did not allow them to perform; they would also blame coalition partners for not cooperating in making government effective. This time the RSP government would not have any excuses for failing to act; the trust and seats it won during polls gives it full parliamentary strength. The youth-parliamentarians -102 under 40, 26 under 30 and 13 of Gen Z age 28 in 275-member-House would press the new government in their own ways to perform with tangible results in short time and in a manner which can both impress and impact people in real time. People who always played their role well and with a sense of accountability during election have felt over time misled and let down in the past. Assuring them that this time the experience would not be repeated is also essential. As the leading party RSP initiates first steps in Singha Durbar, parliament and the rather wider domain of public service delivery, they should all respond to the agenda of change. The beginning should ignite symptoms of change: genuine performance, commitment to the RSP election-manifesto and focused care not to repeat past governance-deficits. Special care should be taken not to abuse the huge power and vast resources made available to RSP through ballot box.
