Following the footsteps of her mother Deep Mala Kharel Dhakal, has grabbed the Miss Nepal Hong Kong 2026 title amidst a ceremony in Hong Kong recently. Her mother Roshni Kharel had participated in the first Miss Nepal beauty pageant way back in 1994.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Deep Mala graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 2024 and currently works as an investment strategist at BlackRock. The same year, she was named to the Diversity List of the The Zubin Foundation, which recognises high-calibre individuals from Hong Kong’s ethnic minority communities for potential public service roles.

She is a versatile girl having multiple talents. Besides being a beauty queen, she does MC, plays tae-kwon-do and works in finance sector as well. She is also a marathon runner in Hong Kong. She has done Bachelors in Economics and Finance with double major subjects. She has studied Finance, Economics, Public Administration and Politics.

She is also the second generation youth coordinator in the Non-Resident Nepalese Association, Hong Kong division. She speaks four languages, Mandarin, Cantonese, English and Nepali.

Winning the Miss Nepal Hong Kong title grants Deep Mala entry into the Miss Nepal (national competition) whose winner may represent Nepal at major international pageants, such as Miss World.

Deep Mala wants to utilize her knowledge, skill and experience for the development and prosperity of Nepal. “I love Nepal and I want to contribute to build my ancestral land in whatever way I can,” she says.

In her opinion organizations like NRNA can serve as a bridge between Nepal and the outside world and help build the country. “I think all the NRNs should come back and connect with your country, connect with your culture in Nepal.”
