Pre-poll politics: evolving impressively

One visible outcome of the Gen Z revolution could be sensed in the way Nepali pre-poll politics is evolving at the moment. Observers have noted significant change in election trend this time.

Leaders and political parties, seasoned and established feel compelled to either remodel, or merge or quit. Fresh politicos appear not settled yet; others look lost some 10 weeks before ballot day.

Gen Z activists have not yet specifically clarified how they will approach the election and overall politics: will they have one party representing them or many, or will fresh parties take up the responsibility of representing the vision and will of Gen G revolution.

Old leaders having remodeled themselves under the cover of new party have begun to present narratives to please Gen Z pledging they would fulfill Gen Z dream. “We have corrected ourselves because Gen Z reminded us of our past failure and nonperformance,” they are telling people while introducing new parties.

Traditional parties feel: they have their strength at the grass-root level; it has neither been rocked nor shocked by recent events and they will capitalize on it in polls by fielding new faces as candidates.

Inspired by that impression, CPN UML chief Oli is trying to re-establish himself as the inevitable figure of Nepali politics. His competitor in the party is challenging him in this regard.

Nepali Congress seeks to avoid internal division by promoting a compromise among feuding factions in the party. Although its top-layer-leaders will not contest, their close supporters of young generation will. Their hope is: the party’s single largest position in the former parliament can be retained despite pull and push of recent political events.

Parties which appeared in Nepali politics in different times with slogan and call for alternative politics to NC-CPN UML, are working hard to finalize an effective 2082–alliance for winning maximum seats in House of Representative.

Champions of pre-poll politics in Nepal cannot predict win or loss for any of the above combination. “It is up to the voters who will finally decide on who could represent them in times following Gen G revolution.”
