Four die due to high altitude sickness, a foreigner rescued

At least four Nepalese died in Manang and Kaski districts of Western Nepal and a Spanish tourist fell sick due to high altitude in Taplejung district of Eastern Nepal.

Spanish national Alejandro Pastrana Martin, 31, who was having rest at Dzonga Family Guest House in Faktanglung village of Taplejung district was caught by high altitude sickness on Saturday. He was returning from a trekking to the basecamp of Northern Kanchenjunga mountain. Security personnel have rescued him from the hotel and brought to Kathmandu on a helicopter for treatment on the same day, according to Home Ministry sources. He is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Kathmandu and his condition is out of danger.

Similarly, two Nepali porters Dil Bahadur Gurung and Samga Ghale and trekker Ram Thapa Magar died of high-altitude sickness at Narpabhumi village of Manang district. Gurung and Ghale, both porters, were carrying luggage of foreign trekkers when they were caught by high altitude sickness, said a statement issued by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority under the Home Ministry. Magar is found to be dead in his hotel room due to the altitude sickness after returning from the trekking.

Likewise, Nepalese national Suraj Man Shrestha who was suffering from high altitude sickness while going for trekking in Annapurna Base Camp area of Kaski district died in the hotel he was staying on Saturday, according to NDRRMA.

These days trekking trails of Nepal including Annapurna Base Camp in Myagdi and Muktinath in Kaski districts are flooded with thousands of domestic as well as foreign tourists going for trekking.
