Nepal to host International Parliamentarians’ Meet on climate change issue

Nepal has announced to host Hindu Kush Himalaya Parliamentarians’ Meet in Kathmandu on August 18-19, 2025 with a view to drawing international attention towards the impacts of climate change and environment pollution.

More than one hundred parliamentarians, policy makers, planners, climate experts and other concerned stakeholders from the Hindu Kush Himalaya region will gather in Kathmandu on the occasion to share their knowledge, expertise and experiences on the occasion.

President of Nepal Ramchandra Paudel will inaugurate the two day conference being organized by Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee of the Federal Parliament of Nepal in collaboration with the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Kathmandu on `August 18.

Issues related to climate change, biodiversity loss and effects of pollution that are creating intense socio-economic crisis for the Hindu Kush Himalaya region mainly feature during the discussion at the conference. “The ongoing climate change and environment pollution have been seriously affecting mountain eco-system, natural resources, livelihood and human life for the region,” reads a statement issued during a press meet organized in Kathmandu on Monday to brief about the international conference.

Government officials, experts and other stakeholders from the Hindu Kush Himalaya region including Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan are attending the meeting. Hindu Kush Himalaya region stretched about 3,500 kilo metre from Afghanistan to Myanmar and supports world’s ten largest river systems including Ganga and Bramhaputra.

The main objective of the parliamentarians’ meet is to present a common view point of the region on issues related to the mountains in national, regional and international forums,” remarked Lawmaker Bir Bahadur Balayar, who is also the convener of the organizing committee.
