According to Nepal Police, crime decreased by 1.23 percent last year compared to the previous year. According to information furnished by Nepal Police at a press conference on Sunday, only 58,472 crimes were registered across the country in the fiscal year 2081/82. While in 080/81, 59,203 crimes were registered. Compared to the previous fiscal year, incidents such as manslaughter, kidnapping, weapons, crimes of a public nature, and rape have occurred in particular in the past fiscal year.
In the fiscal year 080/81, 66 incidents of an organized nature were registered at the police offices across the country. While in the fiscal year 081/82, only 38 such incidents were registered. Similarly, in the fiscal year 080/81, 10,756 crimes of a public nature were registered. In the fiscal year 081/82, this number has decreased by 2,237 to 8,519. Offenses related to dereliction of duty have also been registered 11.45 percent less than the previous year. This offense was registered in 080/81 at 576 and in 081/82 at 510.
Similarly, crimes related to weapons and ammunition have decreased by 10.83 percent. Crimes related to rape have also decreased by 10.13 percent this fiscal year. In fiscal year 2080/81, 2,507 cases of this offense were registered across the country, and in fiscal year 2081/82, 2,253 cases were registered. Similarly, suicide-related crimes have decreased by 4.75 percent, theft-related crimes by 2.71 percent, and kidnapping-related crimes by 2.06 percent.
Similarly, in terms of banking crimes, 8,080 crimes were registered in the Valley in 081/082, 1,278 in Madhesh, 1,253 in Koshi, 882 in Lumbini, 806 in Gandaki, 798 in Bagmati, 443 in Sudurpaschim, and 297 in Karnali. According to Nepal Police statistics, drug-related crimes have increased. According to the statistics, only 4,398 cases related to this crime were registered in the fiscal year 080/81. However, in the fiscal year 081/82, it increased by 663 to 5,061.
According to Nepal Police statistics, the highest number of crimes occur in the Kathmandu Valley. In the fiscal year 2008/09, 58,472 crimes were registered across the country. Out of which, 16,575 crimes were registered in the Kathmandu Valley. After that, the highest number of crimes have occurred in Madhesh Province. Nine thousand 599 crimes were registered in this province in the fiscal year 081/82. Similarly, during this period, 9,461 of the total number of crimes were registered in Koshi Province, 7,466 in Lumbini, 4,115 in Gandaki, 4,115 in Bagmati, 3,936 in Sudurpaschim Province, and 1,987 in Karnali.
