Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced an estimated budget of Rs 25.76 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26).
Deputy Mayor SunitaDangol presented the budget during a Municipal Assembly session held at the Rastriya Sabha Griha on Sunday, 13 July. She said the budget includes Rs 650 million allocated for external liabilities.
Of the total amount, the city expects to generate Rs 25.11 billion through its internal income and existing bank balance. Dangol added that Rs 20.12 billion is assured from internal sources alone.
Moreover, the federal government will provide Rs 4.98 billion through fiscal equalization and revenue sharing mechanisms.
On same day morning, the city’s executive committee approved the proposed budget for the new fiscal year.
Earlier, on Friday 11 July, KMC has set a budget ceiling of Rs 25.11 billion for the fiscal year 2082/83.
The new ceiling reflects a modest increase of Rs 210 million compared to the previous year.
Mayor Shah had emphasized the need to allocate more funds towards infrastructure development in line with public demand. The presentation of the policy, programme and budget of KMC for the upcoming fiscal year was delayed by two weeks, despite the mandate that it has to be presented by Ashad 15 (end of June). The cause of delay seems to be the dispute between Mayor Shah and Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain, who is accused of corruption in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
