Five Indian criminals arrested for abducting Bangladeshis for ransom

Busting an abduction racket involving Bangladeshi tourists Nepal Police have arrested five Indian criminals, who had taken Bangladeshi nationals as hostage for ransom. Those arrested include Shiva Saurabh, 34, from Delhi, India, Ramesh Jadav, 64, from Kanpur, India and Dipak Kumar, 32, Sandip Kumar 36, and Jasprit Singh, 38, from Punjab, India, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Apil BOhara, also the spokesperson for Kathmandu Metropolitan Police.

The Indian criminal gang had abducted seven Bangladeshi nationals who have come to Nepal for a visit, and demanded ransom, in the pretext of making cheap travel arrangement for them, Bohara told The Nepal Weekly.

The Bangladeshi nationals were kept as hostage in a rented house at Ward No. 15 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City in Kathmandu valley and they were tortured mentally as well as physically, according to the police.

The criminals snatched their money and mobile phones and made forced them demand ransom through Whatsapp, it is learnt. The Bangladeshis were beaten and threatened with life.

The police acting upon a tip off arrested the Indian criminals from different parts of capital city, Kathmandu. The police have also received permission from Kathmandu District Court to put them under judicial remand for six days to carry out further investigation into the matter. There have been frequent incidents of Indian criminals abducting Bangladeshis in Kathmandu for ransom in the recent past, according to the police.
