Nepal’s foreign exchange stands US D 15.27 billion

Nepal’s foreign exchange reserves have reached Rs 2426.84 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, according to Nepal Rastra Bank.

As of mid-April 2025, Nepal’s total foreign exchange reserves increased by 18.9 percent compared to Rs 2041.10 billion in mid-July 2024.

In US dollar terms, the foreign exchange reserves stood at USD 15.27 billion in mid-July, which increased by 15.4 percent to reach USD 17.63 billion by mid-April.

Out of the total foreign exchange reserves, those held by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) increased by 15.6 percent, rising from Rs 1848.55 billion in mid-July 2024 to Rs 2136.46 billion in mid-April 2025.

The foreign exchange reserves held by banks and financial institutions (excluding NRB) increased by 50.8 percent, from Rs 192.55 billion in mid-July 2024 to Rs 290.38 billion in mid-April 2025.

As of mid-April, Indian currency accounted for 20.4 percent of the total foreign currency reserves.
