Although development of science and technology has caused challenges to may areas it cannot affect the field of nursing, opined experts in the nursing field. AI cannot give the feeling of love, compassion and health care being provided to the patients by nurses, remarked Dr. Saviha Yasmin, managing director at Nepal Medical College. Nurses are playing an important role in health care sector and there is no alternative to the service being provided by the nurses, she pointed out.
The services being provided by the nurses cannot be compared to any one, Yasmin said speaking at a programme in Kathmandu on Sunday on the occasion of International Nursing Day. She expressed the view that 80 percent of the patients are returning to their home after the treatment due to the care and services being provided by the nurses, she pointed out. Metron of the college Navina Singh underscored the need for expansion, promotion and development of nursing education across the country. Director of the college of the hospital Prof. Dr. Neelmani Adhikari read out a poem dedicated to the nurses recalling the valuable services and care being provided by the nurses in the hospital.
International Nursing Day is observed on May 12 in memory of the world renowned nurse Florence Nightingale, who is credited as the first person to start modern nursing service. She was born in Also known as the Lady with the Lamp, she was born on May 12, 1820.
On the occasion more than 29 nurses who have been contributing in the field for more than 15 years have been honoured.
