Kamal Giri has been elected chairman of the Press Center Nepal (PCN) affiliated to the CPN-Maoist Centre.
The 5th General Convention of the PCN held from March 29-30 here elected Giri with 366 votes while his rival Deependra Rawal secured 191 votes.
The voting for some key position including chairman, senior chairman, general secretary, deputy general secretary, secretary and treasurer was held on March 30 while some were elected uncontested.
Manoj Gharti Magar got elected as general secretary with 379 votes while his rival Deependra Sharma got 148 votes.
Similarly, Ramsingh Thagunna, Laxman Khadka and Bibek Gautam got elected unopposed as vice-chairmen in open category while Shanta Adhikari and Dipak Shrestha got elected as vice-chairmen in the woman and inclusive category.
Of 821 voters (organisers and representatives for general convention included), 551 had cast their votes as the election was held late at night, informed Govinda Acharya, the coordinator of the central election committee of the PCN.
