RK Mehta wins the Best Actor award

A few days ago, at an international film festival held in Kathmandu with the participation of films from 40 countries

RK Mehta has won the Best Actor award for the film ‘Aankha’, beating out famous actors Pradeep Khadka, Aryan Sigdel, and Paul Shah during th international film festival held in Kathmandu the other day. Various films from a total of 40 countries participated in the competition.

While ‘Shambala’, which was also selected for the Oscars from Nepal, won the Best Gautam Buddha Film award, the film ‘Aankha’ won the Best National Feature Film award. His powerful performance in the film ‘Aankha’ won him the Best Actor award at the Nepal International Film Festival 2025. This award not only recognized his struggle, but also added a new height to the Nepali film industry.

The film ‘Aankha’, which had been selected at many international film festivals and even won awards, unfortunately had to be withdrawn from theaters on the same day it was released due to flooding in Kathmandu. R. K. Mehta, who won the Best Actor award for the film ‘Aankha’, was unable to attend the award ceremony in person as he was in Italy and expressed his happiness from Italy.

Who is R. K. Mehta?

Born in Bhattachok, Biratnagar, RK Mehta is an artist who has made acting not just a profession, but an integral part of his life. He has been interested in karate, dance, and acting since childhood and earned a black belt in karate, winning medals for Nepal in international competitions. A deep passion for acting drew him to the stage, where he trained at the Birat Maithil Natya Kala Parishad, Biratnagar Gurukul and then at Shilpi Theater. He worked at Shilpi Theater for two years, staying in a hostel. 

Mehta made a distinct identity on stage, achieving special skills in mime and pantomime. He proved to be excellent not only as an actor, but also as a director. He has acted in and directed many plays including ‘Mahakanjus’, ‘Ab Kona Chalav’, ‘Harjeet’, ‘Koma’, ‘Majipalakhe’, ‘Beech’, ‘Jiwandho Akash’, and ‘Vaudichhaya’.

Mehta’s journey is an example of struggle, dedication and continuous hard work. He faced many challenges to make his mark from the stage to the international level, but he never gave up.
