On the occasion of World Water Day 2025, President Ram Chandra Paudel has underscored the urgent need to conserve water bodies to prevent future water crises. He mentioned the importance of groundwater recharge and stressed need of action to preserve water resources.
President Paudel, in the message, called for initiatives such as building ponds and lakes in rural areas and using rainwater harvesting methods in cities to replenish groundwater. He stressed the need to blend ancient and modern technologies to create sustainable water reservoirs.
He also mentioned that water has always been essential for life, from the origin of organisms to the development of ancient civilizations along rivers. However, he warned that protecting water and nature has become increasingly complicated due to urbanization, pollution and climate change effects. Moreover, he expressed concern over the depletion of groundwater due to excessive use and concrete infrastructure that blocks natural recharging process. He noted that rapid industrialization and unplanned settlements are further polluting water sources as well. President Paudel also expressed expectation that World Water Day would inspire collective efforts to conserve water and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
