Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba returned home on completion of her 12 days visit to India. She paid a visit to India from March 10 to 21 for her health check up and to attend Raisina Dialogue organized in New Delhi from March 17-19.

During the visit she held informal meetings with her Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar, deputy Prime Minister of Moldova and ministers of Philippines, Georgia and Ukraine separately. DUring her meeting with Jaishankar, the two leaders reviewed the progress made during the meetings of bilateral mechanisms between the two countries, according to sources close to Foreign Minister Deuba.

She also requested External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to increase the supply of electricity from India to Nepal during the dry season, when there is high demand of electricity in the country. “During m visit to Delhi this time, diplomatic efforts were also made to increase the suppl of electricity from India to Nepal under the existing bilateral contract and through the IEX (Indian Electricity Index) allowing for longer-duration power draw each day to help address Nepal’s ongoing electricity deficit,” she wrote in the X.

Nepal is currently facing electricity deficit as the country’s demand for electricity is exceeding the domestic demand for power. Nepal started importing electricity from India from mid-December as the country faces shortage of power during winter season.
