Three students were killed when a school bus met with an accident at Salambutar of Sankhu Municipality in Kathmandu district Wednesday afternoon. Those killed in the accident were aged between 12 and 14. Forty others including students and teachers were injured in the incident, according to Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara, also the spokesperson at Kathmandu District Police Office.
The bus belonging to S.S. Academy at Chabahil, Kathmandu returning from a picnic at Nagarkot hill station, fell some 50 metre from the hilly road at Salambutar area at 4.30 pm, the police official said.
The bus driver lost control over the vehicle due to the brake failure, as per the preliminary investigation. The police have detained the bus driver and further investigation is underway, according to the police officer.
Twenty five of those injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at People’s Life Care Hospital in Kathmandu while the remaining were admitted to TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj and Nepal Medical College, Attarkhel, according to the police.
