A massive fire broke out at the Ministry of Water Supply in Singha Durbar Secretariat on Saturday, starting on the third floor, which housed the office of the Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation. Three rooms including the office of Minister Pradeep Yadav suffered damages in the incident.
Property worth around five million rupees was gutted in fire, according to official sources. The fire damaged two televisions, a desktop computer, a water heater, tables, sofas, chairs, carpets, and a CCTV monitor, among other office equipment. However, the documents of the Ministry were not damaged in the fire.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, formed a probe committee to investigate into the matter after conducting an on-site inspection of the affected area. Senior Divisional Engineer of the Ministry of Urban Development, Ganesh Karmacharya, has been appointed as the coordinator of the committee. An under-secretary from the Ministry of Water Supply and Engineer Ganesh Pandey are members of the panel.
Meanwhile, Minister Yadav has temporarily formed his new office and started working.
