Nepal to host mountain dialogue on climate change issues in May

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday announced the Sagarmatha Sambaad (Mountain Dialogue) scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on May 16 – 18.

The Prime Minister declared the Dialogue amidst a programme organised at the Office of the Prime Minister, Singha Durbar held on the occasion of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (IYGP), 2025.

Nepal government is planning to host the event, the multi-stakeholder international dialogue forum, for the first time focusing on climate change, melting glaciers, mountains and the future of human life. Addressed the announcement ceremony the Prime Minister shed light on the objectives of the Dialogue. It may be noted that Nepal continues to amplify its voices for climate justice in the international forums. “The rapid melting of snow and unpredictable precipitation have transformed once snow clad glittering white mountains into black rocks,” remarked the Prime Minister.

“However, Nepal is committed to achieve net zero emission y 2045and implementing ambitious climate plans,” he pointed out. Despite our minimal carbon footprint Nepal faces devastating climate impacts, he added. Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers, secretaries, senior officials and the heads and representatives of the diplomatic missions in Nepal were present during the occasion.
