Nestled in Tokha, Kathmandu, Babu Raj Chaku Product has been a cornerstone of traditional Nepali sweets since its establishment in 2058 B.S. by Baburaj Dangol. Carrying forward a family legacy, Baburaj took the reins from his maternal grandfather, Chandraman Dangol, who originally managed the business before him.
Renowned for its authentic and high-quality chaku (traditional jaggery molasses), the business caters to a wide array of customers. The sweet treat is especially popular during the Maghe Sankranti festival, celebrated on the first day of the Nepali month of Magh. During this time, the demand for chaku surges, and the production team works tirelessly to meet the seasonal workload. On average, they produce six to seven 50-kilogram sacks of chaku daily during this festive season.
The key ingredient, sakhar or jaggery, is sourced from Kapilvastu’s Krishnanagar, ensuring the purity and authenticity of the product. The chaku is distributed across various locations, including Basantapur, Sankhu, New and Old Thimi, and even Bhatbhateni supermarkets.
Beyond chaku, the business also produces other traditional sweets such as pustakari (a type of caramel fudge), til ko laddu (sesame seed balls), and special varieties of chaku. These items are made not only to fulfill festive demands but also to cater to custom orders throughout the year.
Babu Raj Chaku Product stands as a testament to the enduring charm of Nepal’s traditional sweets, preserving cultural heritage while meeting modern demands. Its commitment to quality and authenticity continues to make it a cherished name in Nepali households.
