President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his best wishes for peace, prosperity, and happiness to all Nepalis on the occasion of Tamu Lhosar, a festival mainly celebrated by the Gurung community.
In his message, President Paudel underlined the importance of festivals like Lhosar in fostering mutual harmony, tolerance, and fraternity among Nepalis, who live in a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, and multi-cultural society. Such festivals play a significant role in strengthening national unity, he noted.
Tamu Lhosar, celebrated as the New Year by the Gurung community residing in the hilly and mountainous regions of Nepal, is marked with fanfare and joy. In recent years, its celebration has gained popularity beyond the Gurung community. Districts with significant Gurung settlements experience a special vibrancy during this festival.
President Paudel also lauded the Gurung community for their contributions to Nepal’s socioeconomic progress and their efforts in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. There was a huge crowd of people wearing the Gurung attire in Tundikhel Open Ground of Kathmandu to celebrate the occasion on Monday.
