Experts and climate activists, who participated in Nepal – Bangladesh Youth Conclave 2024 organized in Kathmandu on Wednesday underscored the need to forge greater collaboration among youths for combating climate change and environment protection, and to attain social justice.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion Minister for Sports and Youth Teju Lal Chaudhary underscored the need for collaboration among the countries of the South Asian region to achieve three zeros, zero carbon emission, zero poverty and zero unemployment. There is a need for deeper collaboration between Nepal and Bangladesh to invest in youths who are the leaders for tomorrow, he pointed out adding, “together we can build green and healthy planet.”
Former Minister for Environment Sunil Kumar Manandhar has expressed the view that youths should raise their voice to maintain social justice, combat climate change and preservation of environment. He also underlined the need for youths of Nepal and Bangladesh to collaborate in the areas of environment protection and climate action, promotion of trade, tourism, sports and youth activities.
Former Minister for Science and Technology Ganesh Shah said that the biggest impact of climate change will have in the availability of water and warned that, after 25 years, 75 of the global population will face water crisis. Climate change, loss of biodiversity and waste management and pollution are the major challenges of the modern world, he pointed out adding the youths of South Asia region need to collaborate to address these issue.
Around 120 participants including 60 from Bangladesh representing divers areas of society including students, climate experts, environmental activists and business community people took part in the conference jointly organized by Youth Development Centre and Land for Future.
