Land For Future (LOF) marked its fifth anniversary with a grand celebration at the Russian House Hall in Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu coinciding with World Soil Day. The event highlighted the critical importance of soil conservation and sustainable environmental practices, aligning with this year’s theme: “Caring Soils: Measure, Monitor, and Improve.”
The program brought together a diverse group of experts, scientists, government officials, environmental activists, and innovators to promo
te collaboration and share insights on sustainable soil management. Chief guest Ganesh Shah, former Minister for Science and Environment, underscored the vital role of healthy soil in ensuring food security and addressing climate challenges.
Miss Nepal 2023, Srichha Pradhan, graced the event as a special guest, delivering an inspiring address that resonated deeply with the audience. Reflecting on her journey as an environmental science student and advocate, she highlighted the often-overlooked value of soil in sustaining life. “We owe so much to the soil beneath our feet, yet we fail to give it the care and respect it deserves. It’s time for the youth to step up and play a more active role in soil conservation,” she remarked. Pradhan also commended LOF for its unwavering commitment to environmental protection and its efforts to empower communities through education and sustainable initiatives.
The event featured a compelling presentation by Puja Manandhar from Nepal Bio Science Research Laboratory, focusing on sustainable soil management practices and their link to environmental health. Assistant Professor Anupama Shrestha from Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology delved into the significance of microorganisms in improving soil quality. She stressed the potential of sustainable agricultural practices to enhance environmental resilience and safeguard food security.
LOF Deputy Coordinator Shiksha Khanal took attendees through a brief yet impactful history of the organization’s journey over the past five years. Under the guidance of Former Environment Minister Sunil Manandhar, who presided over the event, LOF’s dedication to fostering awareness and empowering communities with innovative solutions was celebrated.
The celebration also included an exhibition featuring stalls from notable organizations such as Sikali Herbs, Digo Bikash, Natural Conservation Society, and Sanskriti Farms. These exhibits showcased products and solutions promoting sustainable living, reinforcing the event’s focus on actionable strategies for environmental conservation.
As LOF enters its sixth year, its commitment to raising awareness about soil conservation and environmental sustainability remains steadfast. The organization continues to serve as a beacon of hope, inspiring individuals and communities to work collectively towards a healthier and more sustainable future.
Miss Nepal Srichha Pradhan’s impassioned call for youth involvement in soil conservation emphasized the crucial role young people must play in addressing environmental challenges. Her presence and message were among the event’s most memorable highlights, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
By blending expert insights, collaborative efforts, and inspiring leadership, the event exemplified the power of unity in tackling pressing environmental challenges. As the world faces increasing threats to soil health, initiatives like those led by LOF serve as a vital reminder of the need for immediate and sustained action.
