Nepal US Alumni Network (NUSAN) in collaboration with iHub Kathmandu has organized an event in Kathmandu on Friday focussing on empowering through self-defence on December 6 marking 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence. On the occasion, Charimaya Tamang, a representative from Shakti Samuha, shared her journey of establishing the organization after becoming a victim of gender based violence. Her organization supports victims by providing self-defence training and encouraging confidence among the victims. On the occasion, Satya Basnet, DSP of Armed Police Force, spoke about border security, holding centres and importance of social awareness against gender-based violence. Sanju Maharjan, a national level karate champion, who trained approximately 7,000 women and girls discussed the importance of self-defence. The participants also had the opportunity to share their experience of self-defence and query related to gender-based violence.
