The number of people who lost their lives due to the disaster caused by the incessant rain has reached nearly 200. At least 30 people went missing due to the natural disaster. According to preliminary data, more than 3,000 houses were damaged by the flood. A police officer assigned to search and rescue said that the total number of dead may be higher as the bodies of the missing persons are still being found.
According to the data received from Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force till Monday afternoon, one hundred and 92 people lost their lives while 94 people sustained injuries due to landslides, flood and inundation following countrywide incessant rain.
Of them 35 people were killed when a landslide buried a bus and a microbus in Dhunibensi-9, Jhaple Khola section of Dhading under Prithvi Highway. Among the vehicles buried in the Jhaple River, 14 dead bodies have been recovered from the microbus number LU1J 4578 coming from Butwal to Kathmandu on Saturday. The bodies of 16 people aboard the microbus No. Ba3Kh 1315 leaving Chitwan for Kathmandu and 5 people aboard the bus No. 4Kh 2270 coming to Kathmandu from Gorkha were recovered on Sunday. Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Team have safely rescued 3,695 people trapped in various places during the disaster. Among the rescued, around 90 injured people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals and health institutions.
Due to landslides and erosion, 14 concrete and suspension bridges in different districts have been washed away. According to the preliminary information of the Ministry of Home Affairs, 3 thousand 299 houses and 18 animal sheds have been damaged. At least 272 animals/cattle have died in the flood.
