Salt Trading Corporation, established on Bhadra 27, 2020 B.S. as the first public-private partnership of Nepal, is observing its 62nd anniversary on Thursday, Bhadra 27, 2081 (September 12, 2024)and various activities are on the card for the day. STC was established with the basic objective of importing salt at reasonable price and manage its distribution across the country. Other objectives of STC are to import, export and distribute essential consumer goods and items as per the need of the country. It also aims to open and operate branches, sub-branches and offices in different parts of the country, for the purpose of import, export and distribution purposes.
STC has been supplying essential consumer goods including, rice, beaten rice, flour, printing paper, chemical fertilizer, lentils, spices, tea, sugar, salt, cooking gas and other daily consumer items to the consumers at reasonable prices.
“Salt Trading has not only ensured quality and price of salt, but also focused on its availability and accessibility to the general public,” observed Urmila Shrestha, CEO of STC. As per the responsibility shouldered to it by the government of Nepal, STC has been supplying iodized salt across the country at reasonable prices maintaining its quality and availability. STC has been playing a crucial role for safeguarding the interest of the consumers by ensuring uniformity in prices of essential commodities including salt and sugar paying special attention on their easy and smooth availability.
“Salt Trading has access to the kitchen of each and every Nepali citizen,” pointed out CEO Shrestha.
The corporation has been fulfilling its responsibility of distributing and supplying essential commodities to the people despite unfavourable situation in the past and it will continue to do so in the future,” Shrestha said. “We are ready to shoulder any additional responsibility if the government entrusted upon us.”
“STC has been regularly supplying quality consumer goods to the Nepalese people in a smooth and effective way at affordable prices as per its commitment,” she pointed out. Social service and market regulation is our prime objective rather than only making profit, she added.
STC is organizing a special programme at its premises in Kalimati, Kathmandu to commemorate the 6nd anniversary, in which Minister for Industry Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari has given consent to be the chief guest. Businessmen, industrialists, government officials, civil society members, media persons as well as staff community and well wishers of STC are gathering on the occasion.
