More girls born than boys in Nepal

According to a report, when 112 boys are born in the country, only 100 girls are born. According to the statistical report prepared by the National Statistics Office, the number of girls is less than the number of born boys by 12 out of every 100. Organizing a press meet on Friday the office released all the data of children based on the National Census 078. The office collected the data by observing the children from 0-17 years. In which data related to children’s education, health, marriage, migration, disability, family responsibilities, economic activity, dependency and other topics have been collected. According to the study, the number of children under 18 years of age is 98 lakh 69 thousand 583 out of the total population of Nepal 2 crore 91 lakh 64 thousand 578. This number is only 33.8 percent of the total population. Out of which 51.8 percent are boys and 48.2 percent are girls. According to the data, the most number of children are between 10 and 14 years (29.5 percent).

If this number continues to increase at the current rate, a terrible situation of gender imbalance will be created in the country. Due to the increasing trend of going abroad for foreign employment and studies, the situation of late marriage and not living together during the fertile time of child production is becoming a problem. Due to this, the trend of having children late or having only one/two children is increasing. On the other hand, there is an increase in the tendency of some people to give birth only if it is a boy and to have an abortion if it is a girl.
