Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has said that Nepal can distribute tigers to third countries as the country could not support the growing number of tiger, which has already more than doubled in 12 years period.
Nepal cannot conserve unlimited number tiger as we have limited forest and protected areas, the Prime Minister pointed out. Speaking at a programme to mark the International Tigers Day at National Trust for Nature Conservation, Lalitpur, the Prime Minister said, “We have already doubled the number of tigers and we cannot accommodate if the number again doubles.
If the number of tigers continues to double time and again, time may come when the people will have to leave the country, remarked Prime Minister Oli in a sarcastic manner. He also underlined the need to minimize human- tiger conflicts. He underscored the need to protect the tiger as per our capacity. If we can gift rhinos to other countries, why not tiger? Oli questioned.
Prime Minister Oli said that as the Central Zoo situated in Lalitpur district has become too congested, there is a need to relocate animals to other areas. We need to find out an appropriate alternative to the zoon, he added.
